Accessibility statement

The Arab Maghreb Union is committed to making its website usable by as many people as possible, whatever their disability or device.

Our commitment

The General Secretariat of the Arab Maghreb Union regards digital accessibility as a condition of equal access to public information. We strive to make this website usable by everyone, including people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities, whatever their equipment (computer, tablet, phone) or assistive technology.

Reference standard

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These are the international reference standard, on which most national and regional regulatory frameworks are based.

Conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some content is not yet fully accessible: the known limitations are listed below, in full transparency. The site has not yet undergone a complete third-party conformance audit.

Statement updated on 24 July 2026, on the basis of a self-assessment.

Measures already in place

The following provisions have been implemented:

  • a “Skip to content” link at the top of every page, to reach the main content directly;
  • a semantic HTML page structure (a single main heading per page, a heading hierarchy, navigation landmarks);
  • the language of each page declared in the code, and language changes signalled to assistive technology;
  • navigation that is fully operable by keyboard, with a consistent tab order;
  • a display that remains legible at up to 200% zoom and adapts to small screens, without disabling zoom;
  • alternative text on images that carry information;
  • forms in which every field has a label;
  • statistical charts accompanied by an equivalent data table;
  • attention paid to colour contrast and text legibility.

Known limitations

At present, the following elements may cause difficulties; we are working to address them:

  • some downloadable documents (publication PDFs, official texts) are not necessarily tagged for optimal reading by screen readers;
  • the interactive Maghreb map relies on JavaScript; an alternative exists through country profiles and data tables, but detailed exploration with a screen reader remains limited;
  • videos embedded from external platforms do not all provide captions or a transcript;
  • the site has not yet been audited exhaustively, page by page, by a specialised third party.
